Royal Canadian Navy : Surrendered U-Boats
Shown is U-889 which surrendered on 10 May, 1945. RCN frigates HMCS Buckingham and
HMCS Inch Arran, escorted her
to Shelburne, NS, where her captain formally surrendered. On 14 May, 1945 she was commissioned into the RCN, and
decommissioned in December of the same year. She was scuttled in 1947.

Shown is U-190, which, on 16 April, 1945, torpedoed and sank HMCS Esquimalt
with the loss of 52 lives. She surrendered to HMCS Victoriaville on 11 May, 1945, and
flying the White Ensign, sailed to Bay Bulls, Newfoundland.
She was commissioned into the RCN on 19 May, 1945 and spent the next two years as an anti-submarine training ship. She
was decommissioned in July, 1947 and sunk on the spot where she had torpedoed HMCS Esquimalt.
