Ted Heffernan: Naval Ships, WW2, St. John's, Newfoundland.

These ships were photographed by Ted Heffernan during his tenure in the RCNVR Shore Patrol. Ship names have been discovered from the hull numbering, where visible, or in some cases from info written on the back of the photo. **Locations in italics are credited at the bottom of this page. Other locations were provided with the photograph.

HMCS Columbia with heavy damage.

HMCS Columbia (I 49) was heavily damaged when owing to faulty radar and heavy fog, she rammed a cliff without grounding in Motion Bay, Newfoundland, on 25 February 1944. She was not repaired and was decommissioned 17 March 1944. **Location is St. John's Harbour looking east towards Signal Hill. There was a Navy yard built in the western end of the harbour.
