HMCS Ontario, 1945

Many thanks to Al Brosseau for these photos. Unfortunately his email addresses no longer work. He said in an email: " A cousin of mine, Paul Saint Pierre, served on HMCS Ontario in 1944 and 1945 . . . . I understand the first picture is Capt Grant inspecting; my cousin Paul St-Pierre tells me he's the third from the left. . . . . he tells me it was taken in Pearl Harbor on the way back home (Esquimalt) after the Japanese surrender. "

See Ken Johnson's section for more HMCS Ontario photos.

Negative ON 0132: The negative number places this photo in Hong Kong. Third from left is Paul Saint Pierre. The inspecting captain is Capt. Harold Taylor Wood Grant, who was captain of HMCS Ontario from 17 March 1945 to 31 December 1945. In 1946 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and in Sept 1947 he became the Chief of Naval Staff in Ottawa, a position he held until his retirement at the end of 1950.

Negative #ON-0214-1: Ship's company of HMCS Ontario mustered on the jetty (Pearl Harbor?)
Why is the man standing before them dressed only in shorts?

HMCS Ontario, 1945
