Dennis Stapleton, HMCS Magnificent, 1952

Dennis Stapleton, age 17, is shown above at left, in 1952 with his buddy George Simmons. They were on shore leave from HMCS Magnificent, in Portsmouth, England. Dennis also served on HMCS Micmac. He died February 12, 2019.


Dennis Martin Stapleton

June 29, 1934 - February 12, 2019

Passed away peacefully in his home on February 12th, with his wife of 55 years and family by his side. Dennis was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. Husband to Lorraine Stapleton (nee Powlik) and father to Vanessa Stapleton-Schlesiger, predeceased by his beautiful daughter, Roxanne Stapleton, and father-in-law to Wolf Schlesiger of Ottawa, Ontario. Brother to Russell MacBean (deceased), Bobby MacBean, Doug MacBean, Marilyn Jones, Helen MacBean and Joe MacBean.

Navy veteran, intelligence officer, proud loyalist who resided in Toronto, British Columbia; Alert, Northwest Territories; New Delhi, India; Athens, Greece and finally as a Bed and Breakfast owner in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. A celebration of life (was) held in the summer. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Friends of the Haida (Hamilton, Ontario) or to a charity of choice.

Dennis Stapleton in 2016. He was a volunteer in the radio room on Haida in Hamilton, Ontario, demonstrating to visitors how the communications process worked, in Morse code.
