Thanks to Steen Laursen (aka Heilbuth) who sent me these photos from a friend of his, whose father,
Lt-Cmdr. B. Nixon, was in the RCN during WW2.
Crew of HMCS Huron try to clear the ice from the ship's surface.
This is RCN photograph #H-5984, date stamped August 21, 1944 on the back, but hand dated February 1944.
Upper deck of HMCS St Laurent at sea in coastal waters.
This is RCN photograph #H-1854, date stamped August 21, 1944 on the back. Hand-written on the back is:
" Anti Submarine trials HMCS St Laurent
puts on steam to go in for an attack on O-15 ".
Unknown cruiser or battleship.
This is RCN photograph #HN-436-R, date stamped August 21, 1944 on the back. No further information, but a website viewer
pointed out to me this is probably one of the "Prince Class" armed merchant cruisers, either
HMCS Prince Robert, HMCS Prince David, or HMCS Prince Henry.
See photos of these ships.
Can you provide details or corrections?
