Thanks to William Gard for providing these photos, which were originally posted on Facebook by Retired Rear-Admiral John Newton. They show the aftermath of rioting in Halifax, 8 May 1945. The photos were taken by an unknown photographer – the negatives were found in a box purchased from an antique store.
Photo 1. – Corner store with no identification. Perhaps the signage was painted on the window.
Photo 2. –
Photo 3. – Fader's Pharmacy Ltd. has been trashed.
Photo 4. – Both Peoples Credit Jewellers and D'Allaird's have been trashed.
Can you provide details or corrections?
